The Cats

They rule the house! Click on a photo for a larger picture.

Socks Allie is the oldest one in the family. We adopted her and Boomer (deceased, Christmas, 2008) from the Humane Society in 1997 when she was about 12 weeks old. She is definitely Kate's cat, although Moin is the emergency backup if Kate isn't available!

sarahB and Blue were siblings. Their mother showed up in our backyard one freezing winter day and kept coming around (maybe the cat food had something to do with that). In the spring of 2002 she had a litter of four kittens. We captured Mama Cat and her babies and enrolled the kittens in the Hope Program. No one else was available to foster the kittens so we kept them until they were old enough to be adopted. By that time, of course, I was in love with all of them, but since we already had two cats, I settled for keeping just Blue and sarahB. Siblings Furby and Tigger went to live next door with neighbor Rick.

sarahB is a mild-mannered little girl. She loves to sit in the window and watch the birds, lizards, and squirrels. She's very smart and has learned to open most of the drawers and cabinets in the house! sarahB
Blue Blue was my 19-pound baby. His liver failed in 2015 and we sadly had to have him euthanized. He was very sensitive to criticism. When he and sister sarahB got yelled at for fighting, Blue would hide in the bedroom and cry until I reassured him that we still loved him!
Socks is the youngest of the bunch and a real sweetheart. She is a half-sibling of sarahB and Blue, born to the second litter of Mama Cat in 2003.* She spends most of her time guarding the backyard from evil predator doves and mockingbirds, but she generally wants to sleep indoors in the winter. She shows affection by bumping her forehead against ours. Socks
* After this litter was born we were able to trap Mama Cat and the new kittens (all female) and had them spayed.
